Spaced Repetition

Readwise-style daily review for highlight retention

Spaced Repetition

Review your highlights daily with scientifically-proven spaced repetition algorithms. Never forget what you read.

Overview

Naidis includes a complete spaced repetition system inspired by Readwise's Daily Review. It supports:

  • Highlight Review: Revisit your book/article highlights at optimal intervals
  • Mastery Cards: Create Q&A and cloze deletion flashcards from highlights
  • Streak Tracking: Build a daily review habit with streak stats
  • Two Algorithms: Choose between SM-2 (SuperMemo) and Half-life Decay

Quick Start

  1. Open the Command Palette with Cmd+Shift+P
  2. Select "Daily Review" or press Cmd+Shift+R
  3. Review your highlights and mastery cards
  4. Build your streak!

Daily Review Flow

Highlight Actions

When reviewing a highlight, you can:

Algorithms

SM-2 (SuperMemo)

The classic spaced repetition algorithm used by Anki and SuperMemo. Proven effective over decades.

  • Predictable intervals: 1 day → 6 days → 15 days → etc.
  • Adjusts based on recall quality
  • Best for: Consistent, predictable review schedules

Half-life Decay

A newer, adaptive algorithm that models memory as exponential decay.

  • Calculates recall probability in real-time
  • Adapts faster to individual learning patterns
  • Best for: Adaptive scheduling, variable study patterns

Mastery Cards

Turn highlights into flashcards for deeper retention.

Q&A Cards

Create question-answer pairs from your highlights:

Highlight: "The mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell"

Question: What is the powerhouse of the cell?
Answer: The mitochondria

Cloze Deletions

Hide parts of text to test recall:

Original: The mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell
Cloze: The {{mitochondria}} is the powerhouse of the cell

During review: The [...] is the powerhouse of the cell

Use {{...}} syntax to mark hidden text.

Statistics

View your review statistics:

  • Current Streak: Consecutive days reviewed
  • Longest Streak: Your personal best
  • Today/Week/Total: Review counts
  • Streak Recovery: Miss a day? You can recover within 24 hours

Access stats via Command Palette → "View Statistics"

Settings

Configure in Settings → Review tab:

Frequency Tuning

Adjust review frequency per document or source type:

  • Documents: Review some books more/less frequently
  • Source Types: Prioritize articles over tweets, etc.

Frequency multiplier: 0.5x (half as often) to 2.0x (twice as often)

Tips

  • Start small: Begin with 10-15 highlights per day
  • Be consistent: Short daily sessions beat long irregular ones
  • Use Mastery for key facts: Not every highlight needs a flashcard
  • Discard liberally: Remove highlights that no longer matter
  • Check stats weekly: Celebrate your streak!
